»Al-Balsam» succeeds in performing 43 free neurosurgeries in Yemen
The Al-Balsam Association for Training and Health Development recently carried out 43 neurosurgeries in the Republic of Yemen, with the support and sponsorship of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). This voluntary medical program, held from August 17 to 23, 2024, offered free treatment to patients
The Al-Balsam Medical Association team, consisting of approximately 25 health professionals including top spinal surgery and neurosurgery specialists, nurses, and technicians, conducted the surgeries at Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in Aden. In collaboration with local Yemeni doctors, the team examined 127 patients and provided them with essential health care
The voluntary neurosurgery program in the Republic of Yemen is part of a series of humanitarian medical initiatives led by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), aimed at providing treatment to individuals and families with limited financial resources across various countries
Dr. Ahmed Al-Ahmari, Executive Director of the Al-Balsam Association for Training and Health Development, stated that the medical team provided free brain, neurological, and spinal surgeries for patients with severe conditions. These surgeries addressed complex cases such as brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, and other urgent conditions requiring prompt and effective surgical intervention
Al-Ahmari further noted that the Al-Balsam medical convoy has set several key goals, including saving lives through essential surgeries and enhancing the skills of local medical professionals. This involves providing training and qualifications to Yemeni medical staff in the field of neurosurgery
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Naami, Consultant Neurosurgeon and head of the Al-Balsam Association’s medical team in the Republic of Yemen, stated that almost all the surgeries performed were complex and challenging, addressing both brain and spinal conditions
The visit of the Al-Balsam Association’s team to the Republic of Yemen marks the fourth medical mission conducted following the signing of the cooperation agreement with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). The Association’s initial campaign took place in Kyrgyzstan in November 2023, followed by a second campaign in Chad in January 2024, and a third mission in Yemen in May 2024. These campaigns collectively included 363 open-heart surgeries, interventional catheterizations for adult and pediatric patients, and 70 neurosurgeries. These were all successful procedures. Additionally, the missions involved examining 300 patients and providing them with healthcare, medical consultations, and medications
